Protecting America from an incoming intercontinental ballistic missile attack is a complex task involving radars, space sensors, interceptors and a robust command and control system that must work as one. Our nation’s interceptor program is one of the most critical systems serving to protect everyone living in the United States every second of every day.

To support the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) program – as the prime contractor, Northrop Grumman has strategically partnered with Raytheon Technologies and assembled a premier team that will provide a highly advanced capability while focused on affordability, transparency, rapid development, lean manufacturing and a low-risk schedule. Building on decades of experience as a prime contractor for major defense programs, Northrop Grumman will provide a comprehensive NGI solution that supports operational deployment on a rapid timeline to meet the United States’ urgent national security needs.

This history, coupled with cutting edge sensor technologies, artificial intelligence and robust flight electronics built to meet the demands of the NGI mission. Harnessing the latest in agile processes, DevSecOps and model based systems engineering, enables our team to develop, test and deploy an NGI solution ahead of warfighter needs while systematically reducing risk to the program.

Northrop Grumman’s NGI team, with strategic partner Raytheon Technologies, brings flight-proven missile defense experience including ground systems, battle management, command and control, interceptor boost vehicles and kill vehicles, as well as innovative technologies, agile processes and proven facilities. The team is leveraging unmatched past performance in interceptors to deliver a highly capable,affordable, low-risk solution that meets the customer’s schedule and ensures mission success.

NGI: The Right Location

To eliminate an incoming threat, there is no room for error. That is why our team, and the experience we possess, are critical. Close collaboration is key to the success of this program and Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Technologies will be collocating our program management teams in Huntsville, Alabama to facilitate close collaboration and efficient interface with the Missile Defense Agency. We take seriously our responsibility of protecting the nation and being a good partner to the communities where we work.

NGI Proven Facilities

When working on critical timelines to support the NGI mission, the infrastructure must stand ready to support. Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Technologies state-of-the-art operating facilities include new flexible lean manufacturing space that is CMMI Maturity Level 3, ISO9000 and AS9100 certified. NGI production processes and facilities benefit from a successful history of producing hundreds of launch vehicles, kill vehicles and spacecraft – the same facilities that produce the existing Ground-based Midcourse Defense Booster and EKV and the Standard Missile 3 Block IIA interceptor.
